Ode to ‘A Look’ by Jo-Ann Hughes
It’s the way you look when you see me.
Those wide derisive eyes in disbelief,
carried by your mocking tone I see
disregard and scorn causing terrible grief.
Twisting torment in all I achieve;
robbing me of breath and air to fly.
Until another’s love found me.
Reaching through dark lies you weave,
showing truth in brighter sky;
finding joy and spirit free.
Powerful piece of writing - love how you have subverted the ode’s message. Great line ‘robbing me of breath and air to fly.’
